Dr.-Ing. Marc A. Heinisch and Dr.-Ing. Christian Frenzel from ConMoto discussed the decarbonization of the steel industry, securing raw materials and competitiveness through operational green excellence with other industry experts and representatives from science and politics at “Zukunft Stahl 2024”. Other key topics included collaboration in value creation networks, digitalization and the importance of generative AI for transformation, as well as the impact of new regulations on the industry.
All debates at the annual conference organized by Handelsblatt took place against the backdrop that steel-producing companies in Germany have set themselves the goal of producing their steel in a CO2-neutral way by 2045. In doing so, the industry aims to save a third of Germany’s total industrial greenhouse gas emissions. The challenge is to combine this reduction target with sustainable competitiveness and profitability. Leading companies in the industry presented examples of how this can be achieved. Numerous discussion rounds provided new impetus.
