Stoffel Vandoorne attained the first podium position for his team HWA Racelab by coming in third at the Formula E Prix in Rome. Congratulations from ConMoto to the driver and the whole team!
Performing exceptionally well during qualifying and the following Super Pole, the Belgian paved the way for his best racing result of the season so far. In Hong Kong, he had already demonstrated his skills with a fast course and thus, pole position. In Rome, he qualified for the Super Pole session comprising the six best drivers with the fourth-fastest lap time.
Vandoorne made a successful race start, passed GEOX Dragon pilot Jose Maria Lopez and advanced to third position. Round one saw a collision of several vehicles in one of the tight chicanes. Gary Paffett, the second driver of HWA Racelab, was also involved in the accident. The race was suspended and Paffet could unfortunately not continue due to his damaged bolide.
After a 45 minute break the race resumed behind the safety car. Vandoorne continued to drive constantly fast lap times with his VFE-05 bolide. He remained in the top three and even competed for rank two. Vandoorne also kept his professional calm during the final laps and secured the great success for HWA Racelab, obtaining 15 points. Rome’s winner was New Zealander Mitch Evans (Panasonic Jaguar) followed by the German driver André Lotterer (DS Techeetah).
